Nike was able to improve the water protection on the next generation of their fitness wearable, the Nike+ FuelBand SE, by implementing HZO Protection
Nike was a pioneer when it released the Nike+ FuelBand, one of the first mainstream activity-tracking wearables on the market. With the next generation of its device, the Nike+ FuelBand SE, the company sought to improve on the iconic design by boosting its level of water protection.
Nike came to HZO through its product manufacturer, Flextronics, to see how to remedy the limited water protection offered by the first generation of the device. Given the small and compact design of the FuelBand, they sought a solution that would be low profile, but offer additional protection in addition to the mechanical seals currently on the product. After rigorous testing and validation, HZO was chosen to be included on Nike’s next generation fitness tracker and was immediately moved into production.
The company’s manufacturing goals were ambitious and unforgiving, but HZO was able to work hand in hand with both Nike and Flextronics manufacturing teams to successfully include improved water protection on one of the best selling fitness trackers of 2013.
